Update
05/5/08:
Last week on Saturday May 3rd, we had another work party to rake and plant Brothers Field.  We had 10 members that put in a great effort who included myself, Scott Hoke, Dave Munsch, Bob Redelberger, Paul Rudy, Tony Smith, Scott Sterner, Kurt Theiler, Danny Townsend, and Larry Tudor.  A big thanks goes out to Tim Barefoot for getting us use of a York Rake from The York Water Company and Paul Rudy for hauling and using his tractor with the York Rake attached.  And a big thanks to everyone who helped out getting these fields prepared and planted.  Again, Tony Smith used his 4-wheeler to pull the fence section around prior to hand raking and finally seeding.  I took a panorama and a video of the activities.  Filename BrothersWorkDay. 04/27/08:
Last week on Saturday April 19th, we had a nice work party to get the grass planted at Hawk Field.  I believe we had 9 able-bodied members eager to get this field planted.  In alphabetical order there was myself, Steve Arnold, Tim Barefoot, Eric Dermota, Paul Nicholas, Paul Rudy, Tony Smith, Kurt Theiler, and Larry Tudor.  Our very helpful landlord, Ron Hawk, ran his tractor with the pan unit smoothing and de-rocking the ground.  Tony used his 4-wheeler to drag a fence section over it.  Then we all worked very hard raking and carting off the left over debris, seeding with spreaders, and finally rolling it with a hand roller.  I took some pictures with a panorama and a video of the activities.  Filename HawkWorkDay. Then we had rain right after for the next day or two.  We were afraid it rained too hard and washed out the seeds, but that turned out to be minimal.  I took some pictures with a panorama yesterday of the hint of green beginning to show. Filename HawkFieldNewGrass.

Brothers Field takes more work to get the ground ready for planting.  It is looking very good so far and we hope to do a final run over it.   Ron Hawk is even helping us with this field by offering to bring his pan unit over.   We hope to get a work party going for next saturday and finally get the grass planted.  Keep your fingers crossed for good weather.  We have mowed the parking area again and is available to fly from and, since it is a bit rough, I recommend using a beat around plane with fat tires.

Update
04/13/08:
Well, as you may have figured, the heavy rain on Saturday made everything too wet to work with.  We have a York Rake availble, thanks to Tim Barefoot, that we will be able to use on both fields.  Brothers Field needs another finer discing before using the York Rake and then we can get to planting grass.   Now if only the weather will just cooperate long enough to do all this. Also, we still have plans to fix up the access road, and possibly the bridge as well, to Brothers Field and Tim also might try to get a vibrating roller to smooth out what will be the parking area so we can use that temporarily for a runway.  We did get the picnic tables moved from College Ave to Brothers Field today.

04/10/08:
Ron Hawk disced and smoothed the field today and we will be planting grass tomorrow.  I took some panoramic shots after he disced it.   Filename hawkfieldprep.   Click here to browse folder

04/06/08:
I added some more photos of today's progress.   Filename dozerday2Click here to browse folder  I got there after everyone left and I decided to take advantage of our new field rules and flew my Radix alone.  :)  Took a little video of it.  Filename LonelyRadix.  Looks like the tilled ground needs to dry out some more for raking and smoothing and finally planting grass.  We may try to roll everything as well.

04/05/08:
I added some photos and a video of today's leveling at Brothers Field in the temp folder.  Filename dozerdayClick here to browse folder  The dozing will be finished up tomorrow.

Update
04/01/08:
The leveling of Brothers Field is scheduled for this weekend on Saturday, April 5, 2008.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate this time.  The Hawk Field is also about to be tilled and readied for planting grass.   I'll add pictures of the operations and progress after things get started.

Update
02/11/08:
I added 2 satellite photos named BTfieldInfo1.jpg and BTfieldInfo2.jpg to the folder mentioned below that shows exactly where the access road entrance is on Rooster Lane.  Some folks have been apparently driving right by it without realizing it.  It's a little bridge you have to turn North on to.  Just be careful with low clearance vehicles.  It has some tricky spots until we can  get it cleaned it up.  Also, we are now checking out the possibility of putting in a special material called Propex for the runway surface.  Other clubs have used this with great success and it makes a clean superior runway surface that doesn't need mowed.  If it doesn't pan out, then we will be going on with the grass seeding.  Either way, we will also be able to have it leveled off nice and flat which will make it an awesome flying site.

Update
11/17/07:
Brothers Field in Strinestown now open to flying.  As it stands now on the Brothers Field in Strinestown, the runway and pits have been cut and harrowed.   We have cut the rough field grass for the parking areas as short as we can to use as a temporary runway.  It will be a little rough, but flyable.  Use your own discretion on what you think is suitable to fly off it.  This will hold us over while the actual runway continues to be prepared.  The final preps for seeding will have to wait until March '08 now.   We may be able to have the whole runway perfectly leveled off as well.  No further news yet on the status of the Hawk Field in East Berlin.

Update
11/07/07:
Here are some image and video files of the new locations as of September '07, plus Mapquest links to show how to get to them.  The .kmz file is a Google Earth overlay if you have Google Earth installed.  Some of the file names are too long to read, just mouse over and see the whole name in your status bar at the bottom.

I didn't know the actual addresses where these entrances are.  I simply tried different numbers until the Mapquest red star came out about in the right spot.) -Alan

Update
11/01/07:
At this time, it looks like preparing and planting grass for both fields will have to wait until the next planting season in Spring '08.  Maybe if we're lucky enough to get snow on Jan 1, 2008, we could have our Frozen Finger Fly at the Hawk field, as long as the field has been cut, the snow should make it flyable.  Once these fields are smoothed and planted, get ready for great flying seasons ahead.  Meantime, get those planes repaired or built to be ready for it.

When the new flying fields are established, typically, flying can be done any day of the week as per our field rules, which will very likely be updated pending the new locations, but Sunday is our primary flying day.  Wednesday evenings is also a popular flying time.  We're happy to help out potential future R/C enthusiasts who may consider joining our Club.  Non-members, whether just beginning or are seasoned R/C'ers, are welcome to 3 seperate complimentary flying visits to each of the fields so you can see if you like it enough to consider joining.  Of course, proof of AMA membership is required to fly anytime by anybody and, if needed, we will be all too happy to hook you up on a buddy box setup with a qualified Club member to help you get started.  We want you to have a smooth start to your new and exciting hobby.  For more on Club policies, check out the "Regulations" section within the "Our Club" menu.
